Technically Employee Appreciation is celebrated the first Friday in the month of March. And while March 6th has officially come and gone by now, it is definitely not too late to show your employees that you appreciate their hard work and value the contribution they make to the firm. In fact, companies large and small across the country are adopting March as employee appreciation month to celebrate and recognize their teams.
Showing appreciation transcends position, gender or age. Everyone, no matter how entry level or high-up in the organization likes to be recognized. Our managers at Etech Global Solutions are fantastic at creating positive events and celebrating the success of our call center associates. Even at Creative Choice Group in Florida where we employ seasoned commercial real estate professionals, we find ways to thank and reward our team on a regular basis.
For most leaders budgeting for Employee Appreciation activities is most desirable. But do not fret. If you have no budget and little time to organize, keep the Four F’s in mind for employee appreciation.
- Food. There is nothing easier and more appreciated by your work team than food. Serve up inexpensive treats like a build your own ice-cream sundae bar or pass out candy that has a positive sentiment. Examples might be Extra Gum (going the extra mile) or Millionaire candy bars (you are one in a million). Another great option is hosting a simple pot-luck. Everyone brings in a dish and just enjoys a fun luncheon together.
- Family. Time off to spend with family is a treasured gift. Allowing team members to leave work a little early or giving them a paid full day off to relax on their own is always appreciated.
- Fun. Hosting a team building activity or interactive games is a great way to celebrate as a group. Whether you decide to host a casino day with play money or Olympic Games at a picnic site, adding a little low-key amusement allows everyone to laugh, blow off steam and create some positive energy. And fun does not have to be super hard to plan. Playing music during breaks, decorating offices/cubicles and even hosting an easy raffle are easy to pull off and require next to nothing financially.
- Fashion. Dress up days can also be a crowd pleaser. Hosting a crazy hat contest or just encouraging everyone to wear their favorite team jersey (outside the normal business dress code) is yet another way to celebrate in a casual, inexpensive way.
Showing your employees you care and that you appreciate their efforts is important. Happy employees are infectious. They spread Good Will internally and even externally to your customers. So take advantage of March and take time to show your teams they count!
